PDF Tools – Free Online Editor, Converter & eSign

Eight free PDF tools that handle the everyday document jobs: merge files, split out specific pages, shrink large PDFs, convert to and from Word, Excel and JPG, add a watermark, and electronically sign — every task runs locally so your contracts and statements never get uploaded.

What's in this category?

Most users start with the structural tools. PDF Merge drops any number of PDFs into a single file in your chosen order — useful for combining a cover letter, CV and references into one application package. PDF Split does the opposite: extract a single page or a range, perfect for grabbing the bank-statement page you actually need from a 30-page download. Compress PDF recompresses embedded images and strips metadata to shrink large files for upload limits.

The format converters cover the most common conversions. PDF to Word exports a clean editable .docx so you can change text without retyping; PDF to Excel detects tables and exports a real .xlsx — a huge time-saver for invoices, statements and price lists; PDF to JPG turns each page into a high-quality image at the resolution you choose, ideal for embedding pages into a slideshow or a web page.

Two finishing tools round things out. PDF Watermark adds a custom text or image watermark on every page with adjustable opacity and position — for "Draft", "Confidential" or your company logo. eSign PDF lets you draw, type or upload a signature, drop it onto the page and download the signed file — quick enough for routine contracts, NDAs and approvals.

How does browser-based PDF editing work?

The toolkit is built on Mozilla's pdf.js (for reading and rendering pages) and the open-source pdf-lib library (for merging, splitting, watermarking and eSign). Both run as JavaScript inside the page, so a 100-page contract is parsed entirely on your laptop or phone — never streamed to a third-party service. That means there are no upload size limits, no waiting in a queue, and no copy of the file lingering on a remote server. For sensitive documents — banking statements, legal contracts, payslips, medical records — that's the only safe approach.
