How This HEIC to JPG Converter Works
HEIC stands for High Efficiency Image Container and stores pictures using HEVC (H.265) compression — the same codec used for 4K Blu-ray video. Apple adopted HEIC as the default iPhone photo format in iOS 11 because HEVC produces files roughly half the size of JPEG at the same visual quality. Why doesn't Windows open my iPhone photos?
iPhones save HEIC by default. Windows 10/11 needs the (paid) HEIF Image Extension from the Microsoft Store. Converting to JPG sidesteps the issue.
