How This Time Zone Converter Works

Earth's rotation means different parts of the planet experience local noon at different moments. Time zones standardise this into bands roughly an hour wide, anchored to Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). Most zones offset by a whole number of hours from UTC, but India (+5:30), Newfoundland (−3:30), Nepal (+5:45) and parts of Australia (+8:45 in the south-west) use sub-hour offsets. Daylight Saving Time complicates conversions because zones shift their offset by one hour twice a year, on dates that vary by jurisdiction. The calculator uses the IANA timezone database — the same data source most operating systems and programming languages rely on — accessed through the browser's Intl.DateTimeFormat API. That means the result is correct for any historical or future date, including dates inside DST transition weekends. The conversion works by interpreting the entered wall-clock time in the source zone, computing the corresponding UTC instant, and then re-formatting that instant into each destination zone. Multi-zone tables are useful for picking a meeting time that lands inside everyone's working hours.
